Rabbits are a common pest in many countries, including the UK.
If you live in Manchester, Warrington, Cheshire or Liverpool and
ever tried planting a garden, you may have experienced the trouble
that they can cause. The amount of rabbit damage to crops is
estimated to be nearly 100 million pounds per year. There are
treatments that can be used to control them and their damage,
however.
Rabbit damage can be prevented by treatments such as trapping
and releasing or extermination. There are sanctuaries available for
the animals to be safely transported to so they can live a normal
life without destroying crops or gardens. There are other reasons
to control rabbits as well.
Residents of Manchester, Warrington, Cheshire and Liverpool have
probably noticed that not only are these creatures eating and
destroying their gardens, but they're burrowing under their houses
and into their lawns, as well. This can be unsightly and even cause
issues with other rodents gaining access to your home.
These animals are attracted to the steep embankments on either
side of rail and motorways. This is typically a not so bad
situation, but if they start burrowing under a tree on an
embankment then it can quickly become a hazard. If the tree isn't
stable due to these burrows then a heavy wind can easily take it
down and onto the motorway. This would, of course, be extremely
dangerous to motorists.
Rabbits can also end up causing structural damage to the
roadways and bridges themselves due to their burrowing. The
burrowing removes much needed support from under areas that rely on
the ground for stability. This can cause the collapse of a bridge
or the crumbling of a road. They can even chew through water mains
or underground wiring channels, which can cause a whole other
fiasco.
Rabbit damage can easily destroy national parks, orchards,
crops, gardens, sports arenas and countless other structures and
natural areas. They can cause injury by stepping in a hole, or just
make the park look like a mess. This is why control is so
important.
These animals, while adorable, need to be controlled. Not just
for our convenience, but for safety reasons as well. If we take
care of them and treat them properly then we can live with them
with a mutual understanding. Unfortunately, sometimes extermination
is the only way to go, but it's best for both us and the rabbit
population on the whole.
